The observatory is located in the village of Catfield in the heart of the Norfolk Broads in the UK.
The main instrument is a 14" Meade LX200GPS schmidt cassegrain telescope used to image lunar, planetary as well as deep sky targets. The best images taken to date can be viewed on the Gallery page.
The purpose of this site is to document the observatorys journey from a totally manual set-up to full automation in the hope that you may find it interesting or useful if you are considering a simular project.
The goal is complete unattended operation via predefined scripts or remotely from a control room or over the internet. For more details go to the Projects page.
The web site is constantly being reviewed and updated, we would really appreciate your thoughts and ideas on how to improve it further, please e-mail me your comments.
A weather station has been installed to allow local weather conditions to be checked before scripted or remote operation of the scope. The data captured from the weather station is uploaded to the Weather pages every few minutes and presented in tabula, graph and instrument views. The Instruments page contains real time wind speed and direction dials.
We have installed an on-line shop filled with Astronomy and Weather related Books, DVD's and Software. Proceeds from sales will go towards achieving the observatories goals. Every sale is very much appreciated, thank you for your support!
The NightSky page has been created to provide information on current and upcoming astronomical events viewable from this location. Why not bookmark us and drop by again to see whats happening in tonights sky
